Permaculture – A Sustainable Living
Beyond Organic Gardening
Permaculture is a contraction of “Permanent Agriculture” or “Permanent Culture”. a sustainable form of agriculture coined by Bill Mollison. It aims to create systems that are ecologically sound, economically viable and self-sustaining. It is a conscious design to maintain agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the stability, diversity and resilience found in natural ecosystems. The design is a multidisciplinary toolbox that includes natural energies (gravity) to move the water around, reduce water loss (windbreaks), gather and store nutrients, Agroforestry, waste management, renewable energy, etc. This holistic approach is helping permaculture gain traction as a movement across the globe.
